New Year; New Expectations For SAHL

The 2008 season of the Stephenville Area Hockey league concluded with much fanfare and disappointment as the Stephenville Jets toppled the expansion Indian Head Chiefs to claim the Bay St. George Cup for the first time since 2004.

The 2009 season of the Stephenville Area Hockey League will go ahead this summer. After much thought and surveying, the league has decided that a 2009 edition of the highly successful road hockey league will be viable this summer. The league has tentatively scheduled Sunday evenings as the preferred game times. All suggestions are welcome for scheduling and related issues.
The Stephenville Area Hockey League is planning on moving ahead with a season in 2009. To make this possible we are going to new blood. The SAHL is therefore actively recruting new players to fill out its rosters for the 2009 season. Based of the number of players made available to the league, rosters may be expanded or new teams created. Regardless, the league is looking for any players willing to step out onto the tennis court pavement and compete for the Bay St. George, which has been awarded to the top road hockey team in the area since 2004. Games take place Sunday evenings from June to September at the Kippens Tennis Court (Juniper Avenue)

Be part of the next bench clearing brawl or championship team and make use of the wasted time on Sunday evenings that you'll otherwise spend doing...not much.

Seasons In Review

The SAHL is also contemplating holding a "Summer Classic" at a special location which has yet to be determined. The door is also being left open for the return of Micheal Williams this summer. Williams was last a member of the SAHL in 2006 before leaving to pursue a football career in Alberta.

Also, the league announced today that it will be replacing the Bay St. George Cup with a new non-flower pot based trophy. The new trophy will likely be unveiled prior to ball drop at the season opener.
